KITE FESTIVALS
Kite festivals are large events put on as shows for the general public. They usually attract kite fliers from great distances and can last for several days. A typical festival would have a great number of kites flying at any one time (wind providing), including display kites that can be of great size and beauty. Also, there are often contests, raffles, flying demonstrations, vendors, candy drops, etc. There are many festivals held each year all over the world. The largest festival in Nebraska is held each year, mainly on Sat. & Sun. of Labor Day weekend, at the small town of Callaway, which is about 40 miles North of Lexington off I-80 on Highway 40 in the center of the state. The Callaway festival has been know to attract over 200 flyers from 7 states and close to 2500 spectators over the 2 1/2 day event.
